4 Reasons Handmade Costumes Are Totally Worth It!
It seems like after 4th of July we get a breather before things start happening one after the other. So although we still haven’t gotten past the back-to-school craze yet, I’m here to talk to you about Halloween. Oh gosh already?! I know, I know but hear me out. If your child is one of those super cool kids with an out of the box type of imagination, then he/she most likely goes for something way out of the ball park that you most likely won’t find in stores.
The saddest thing we can do is reduce their wishes to what’s available in store because we didn’t plan it with enough time. There are ways to get them that costume they’re seeking to find.
Im referring to having it Handmade. You’re probably thinking to yourself, “no way that’s too expensive”, but hear me out a minute. I put together 4 reasons why handmade is totally worth it.
He wanted “Stuffy” from Disney’s Doc McStuffin. This was when “Stuffy” was no where to be found. He has made his debut in stores since then, but there’s something about the quality of handmade that’s unmatched with retail.
Kids continue to play dress up long after Halloween. The cost of costumes become worth it when the cost per wear lessens. After the holiday is over, most costumes go to the back of the closets. Handmade costumes continue to be used because of their versatility and quality construction.
Take this Stuffy costume for example. This is why Handmade was totally worth it:
1st: The child was overly joyed to be the character he’s been waiting to be his whole life (kids say the cutest things). Even when it wasn’t found in stores you made it happen.
2nd: The beanie is great for winter weather because it’s an actual winter beanie.
3rd: The wings and feet are removable. He will have warm pajamas the rest of winter. If safety is your concern, the belly can be unstuffed and the tail can be removed without unraveling the rest of the costume. If you don’t care to take it apart it can be kept for daytime imagination play.
4th: Once it is outgrown it’s a great hand-me-down. Depending on it’s vigorous use, it may have retained it’s value well enough to resale it.
Ordering handmade from online can be nerve wrecking sometimes. It doesn’t always have to be. There are things to keep in mind when you do order handmade online to ensure you receive the product you were looking forward to receive.
There’s alway an appreciation in handmade quality work because of the crafter’s focus on detail. The feeling of receiving a piece of art created with a crafter’s love for handmade is unmatched with anything else.
