Kids grow up so fast don’t they? The obvious sign is because you have to constantly shop for them season after season. Thank goodness grandma is there to help with the needed alterations (or atleast that’s what many young moms say nowadays). I believe sewing is an important skill that should be learned in our lives just as much as writing because there are so many ways to utilize and appreciate it, yet it is becoming a lost art. That’s the reason Peanuts & Thread was born.
Launched in 2014 as a community for sewing enthusiasts and those that seek to understand more about the value of handmade work. Peanuts & Thread is growing into a community connecting clients with a seamstress in the right niche or if you are up for it, helping you learn through DIY tutorials. So who seeks our help?
- Mother’s on a budget looking for ways to DIY. Money can be tight and with many kids, we always want what’s best even if we have to do it ourselves.
- Mother’s that don’t have the time or the necessary amount of skill to take on a project and need someone with expertise to help them bring a project to life.
- Clients seeking clarity on what a handmade project entails that leads to an “expensive bill”.
- “Teach those kids how to sew” Classes for kids and young teenagers coming soon.
SO WHO IS BEHIND THE SCENES OF THIS CREATIVE COMMUNITY?
Glad you asked.. Hi I’m Monica :). I created Peanuts & Thread as portfolio of my work. My degree in Fashion Design & Merchandising has lead me to a lot of opportunities many of which I created myself. Who said living, eating, and breathing fashion (as I was told the first day of college) had to involve Chanel and Louis Vuitton? Now a mother of 2, I find my inspiration to create from them and for them.
Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I will learn ~Benjamin Franklin
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I will learn” are words that are constantly ringing in my head. Which pushes me to constantly create. Whether it be my costumes or anything sewing related, to writing for this blog, or any other projects as seen in my Instagram. Even when I am creating for a client, my kids see mama creating, and they will remember. While I create, they get bored, and they start recreating what they see in me and are soon creating things of their own. It’s all for them.
As I show the process of these creations, I do so so that when you receive an order from me, you can show your child the work and craft that went into it. They too will show appreciation for handmade art work.
